In respiratory season, the three illnesses people are most likely to catch — COVID-19, influenza, and RSV — look almost identical in the first few days. Fever, cough, sore throat, congestion, and fatigue don't tell them apart. But the right response to each is different: flu and COVID both have time-sensitive antiviral treatments that work best when started early, and RSV can be serious — even dangerous — for infants and older adults.
