Why get the Respiratory Panel

In respiratory season, the three illnesses people are most likely to catch — COVID-19, influenza, and RSV — look almost identical in the first few days. Fever, cough, sore throat, congestion, and fatigue don't tell them apart. But the right response to each is different: flu and COVID both have time-sensitive antiviral treatments that work best when started early, and RSV can be serious — even dangerous — for infants and older adults. Knowing which one you have, quickly, changes how you treat it, whether you qualify for antivirals, and how carefully you need to protect the vulnerable people around you.

This focused panel uses PCR to test a single sample for the five targets behind the most common respiratory illnesses — SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A, Influenza B, and RSV A and B — and clearly distinguishes between them.

Who this test is for

  • Anyone with cold- or flu-like symptoms during respiratory season who wants a definitive answer
  • Households with infants, older adults, or immunocompromised members, where RSV and flu carry the most risk
  • People who want to know whether they're a candidate for antiviral treatment (which is most effective started early)
  • Anyone needing to confirm what they have before visiting vulnerable family or returning to work

Why PCR over a rapid at-home test

  • It's far more sensitive. Rapid antigen tests frequently miss early infection or low viral levels — exactly when treatment decisions matter most. PCR detects the virus directly and reliably.
  • It distinguishes all three at once. One sample tells you definitively whether it's COVID, flu (A or B), or RSV, rather than testing for one and guessing on the rest.
  • It's fast and actionable. Results come back quickly enough to guide antivirals, isolation, and care.
